I have accepted the position to be the Band Manager for MLIB with great enthusiasm. The decision did not come very easy for me to leave ‘my beloved’ lands and resources position. I enjoyed the years and all the training which I received under land management. My energy and focus was to consider and provide fair treatment for all of the benefit of the membership, because we all have a stake in our lands, resources and environment. The university and professional training enabled me to become certified in lands, resources and environmental management. My professional training also opened up doors for me and that I could transfer to a more senior position.
Again, I would like to focus on the membership as a whole and ensure that our members are provided with the services they require in fair, equitable and timely manner. Along with the senior managers from our team we will be reviewing MLIB’s current policies and updating them to make them current. To ensure we implement these policies is essential, which will provide our administration team with guidance, direction and authority.
We are clearly working on separating governance and administration, and we thank Chief Derek Orr for his full support on this. We’re moving towards more team efforts versus individualism, we do this by scheduling regular staff and senior manager meetings. These meetings are also a forum for ‘debriefing’ session for our staff, which assists us to work on the problem areas.
I have a full schedule on a daily basis, but I’m very approachable and willing to take a few minutes to listen to membership, should you have any concerns that our administration can assist you with. We want to be very proactive versus being reactive, so we look forward to the positive changes in the way we’re doing business in administration.
